What Is The Federation?
Think Starfleet without space ships – an Academy that does the following:
1. Creates open source lesson plans for grades K-12 (Beginning Fall 2026)
2. Creates model space colonies on Indian reservations (Beginning Fall 2027)
3. Pioneers new teaching methods based on respect for the natural world
4. Trains a new generation of scientists, creative thinkers and world leaders
5. Creates a network of Federation schools (The Academy) on large reservations
What Is The Vision Of The Federation?
Space X is in the rocket business – designing, building and flying the incredible vehicles that are propelling mankind into a new age of interplanetary travel.
NASA is in the business of strict scientific implementation and data acquisition – creating highly trained teams that build some of the most sophisticated machines and instruments ever conceived in order to gather precise data offworld.
The Federation is in the business of getting kids ready for a career in space exploration, either as astronauts or as scientists in essential support roles.
What Will Implementation Look Like?
We will create a curriculum consisting of open source lesson plans for grades PreK-12 that will enable Native American and Native Canadian students to graduate secondary school and move directly to MIT level course work in preparation to enter a national astronaut training program or to become scientists focused on science, the natural world, space and space exploration.
We will also create community programs on Native American and Native Canadian Indian reservations that will treat each reservation as a model space colony – enabling all reservation residents to participate in an international effort to understand the challenges involved in organizing, provisioning, and feeding offworld colonies.
Our broader goal will be to create a network of schools (The Academy) on every large reservation in the United States and Canada within a single decade. We will build on MIT’s Open Courseware program so that we may offer not only primary educational resources, but university level resources as well – on the reservation so that students can stay with their culture, and their people.
Although we will start on reservations, the ultimate goal is Universal Free Education.
We won’t take kids from their communities, we will bring education to them.
Everything Will Be Open Source
Following in the footsteps of NASA and ESA (European Space Agency), all program data and educational materials in our programs will be released under an open source Creative Commons 4 International license – enabling teachers anywhere in the world to download our curriculum and our model space colony framework at no cost.
